Our collet system, adapted from metal working technology, is designed to hold small parts safely and accurately in a lathe without marring. Its components are a machined steel collet chuck threaded to accept a 1"-8 lathe spindle, a matching spanner wrench set and precision ground collets in five 1/8" increments: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4". Collets hold so securely that the included spanner wrenches are usually unnecessary, with hand tightening being sufficient for most applications. In addition to holding wood stock for turning, the system is useful for mounting assorted mandrels, small shop-made face plates, metal turning blanks and small jam chucks. The individual collets have a range of about .040(forty thousandths), or about 1/32".
